I did ours at about 12k(MY18 @ 3yrs) and the rear diff fluid was quite dark. The front diff fluid was what you'd expect with 12k on it, but the rear was needed. Afterwards, car was smoother and lowered the noise level. The gear oil from the Subaru dealer was not expensive.
