John deere 318 no spark
318 and no spark. Had trouble starting last night . No spark. The coil is open. Started looking for parts online and compared them to what I have installed. The previous owner (flipper) installed new points. I think I have the wrong condenser. Onan parts lists two condensers. Here are some pics.Aug 27, 2005 · Great resource. I have an '86 JD 318. It is the "old style" Onan. I changed out the choke cable the other evening and after finishing, tried to start it. The choke works fine, but it acted like there was no spark. I bought a spark tester, the kind that allows you to hook it up to the plug wire and ground the other end.

Missing under load is a classic symptom of a secondary ignition issue. This is especially critical with the wasted spark system as both plugs fire in series at the same time. Just because it is cheap, change the condenser and be sure it is on the + side of the coil, not the neg like a points system. onan B model B43G-GA018/4327D L853-959817. The first thing you need to check is to see if you have 12 volts to the positive terminal of the coil while the engine is cranking. If you do not, we need to figure out why. If you do have 12 volts to the coil, the problem is most likely in the points. Visually inspect them. Clean or replace as necessary.
