I would like some first hand experience to confirm QL data. Leaning towards Norma, but the efficiency of the Dakota is interesting. I shoot a .338 Norma mag in a heavy ELR rig. The other option is to sell the .30 cal barrel, get another .338 and build another .338 Norma mag since I already have the brass and dies, and shoot the 250 accubonds.

300 grain bullets with a BC of .820 is all that needs to be said. I like the 338 Norma Mag also, if you love the performance of 300 grain bullets, but it has 6.5% less case capacity and brass is a lot harder to find. Once fired 338 Norma brass is virtually unheard of and new 338 Norma brass runs almost $3 a case.Given these rounds, the 338 Lapua will have a free recoil of 36.5 ft-lbs compared to 82.7 ft-lbs for the 50 BMG. The 50 BMG has more than double the free recoil of 338 Lapua Mag. Jul 25, 2018. #8. I've been shooting the .300 RUM since its introduction in 1999. Now I shoot the .300 Norma Mag. which IMHO is a far better cartridge for hunting or target shooting. Any of the seating depth problems are negated by the shorter case allowing these longer heavier bullets to be seated out to magazine length.338 Win Mag (250 gr): The 338 Win Mag has 44.49 ft-lbs of recoil, which is significant, but still not nearly as much as the 338 Lapua. 338 Lapua (250 gr): This cartridge has 65.47 ft-lbs of recoil, meaning it has 47% more recoil than the 338 Win Mag.
